Bit too big... watchdog said shorts model's bulge was 'offensive'
Boxer shorts ad banned over too-big lunchbox
By Mark Wood
UNDERWEAR chiefs have got to drop a cheeky ad for boxer shorts - because the model's LUNCHBOX is too big
Pants firm Brass Monkeys planned a £100,000 nationwide billboard campaign showing a hunky fella in their trunks.
But watchdogs have warned the ads will be torn down unless the company finds a model with a smaller bulge.
Officials at the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) claimed the photos - already seen in magazines - were" likely to cause serious or widespread offence" on billboards.
They were also unhappy with the company's saucy ad slogans. Full Metal Packet and The Loin King - puns on the titles of films.
But Brass Monkeys managing director Kevin Higgs last night branded the CAP ban "pathetic."
He raged: "These little grey men have got their knickers in a twist. Women buy 70 per cent of our underwear for their partners. They'd be totally put off if we put a wimp in a pair of our boxers."
Mr Higgs, who launched Brass Monkeys four years ago in Hinckley, Leics, went on: "The CAP have really kicked us where it hurts. Why are ours any worse than Wonderbra ads? Perhaps they think women will lose control if they see a sexy fella."
Alerted
CAP bosses were alerted to the ads, showing a 23-year-old model named Kelly, by a billboard firm.
A spokesman said: "There's a good chance of complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority being
upheld' He claimed the ads MIGHT be allowed if they featured a "less offensive" smaller bulge.
An 18-30 ad of a man in boxers and the slogan, "Girls, can we interest you in a package holiday?" was axed this year on CAP advice.

An ad for Virgin's Resident Evil computer game, showing a bath overflowing with blood, has been banned by watchdogs. A Sega ad for Virtua Fighter was also banned.
